This house was designed to accommodate any of the river frontage stands along the Jukskei River in phase 2 of Helderfontein Estate. With the river frontage facing West, the challenge was to capture the scenic views but find a way of dealing with the harsh setting western sun. This was achieved through the clever use of articulated sliding screen panels that can be closed as the western sun starts to set. Leaving the screens closed and the sliding doors open allows the house to passively cool in summer. This sleek minimal L-shaped house celebrates its unique surroundings and can adapt dependent on the aspect of the sun.
